Generations Project

Esther Williams, Honorary Mayor-1948

The history of Twentynine Palms not only relates to the artifacts housed in the Museum but must include the people who came to the desert to live, work, and build the community and surrounding area. With people in mind, the "Generations" project was conceived by Marilyn Fernald and Dick Moran. The goal of "Generations" is to gather information on all the families and individuals that have been a part of 29 Palms from the earliest days to the present. It is a research database that can be added to through the coming years. Generations is not intended to trace ancestors, rather, it relates to families and people living in 29 Palms, their service, their business and their contributions to 29 Palms.

We have established five Generations categories:

1st Generation 'The Nomads' — to 1909
2nd Generation 'The Homesteaders' 1910 to 1936
3rd Generation ' The Pioneers' 1937 to 1947
4th Generation 'The Old Timers' 1948 to 1985
5th Generation 'The Contributors' 1986 to ?

Into which of these categories do you fall? If you have not completed a Generations form please do so. Forms are available for download at the link below or at the Old Schoolhouse Museum. We would be especially interested in some personal comments from you about your family. Use the reverse of the form. The personal family comments we hope to gather into a book at a later date. The Generations information is being entered into a computer data base. Sometime in the future [40-50 years] there will be other folks researching 29 Palms. We want them to know who we were and our contributions to the community.
